Our calf is now four months old and is starting to augment his diet with forage as his mother’s milk is no longer enough to support his continued rate of growth by itself. His rumen is starting to function, so he is able to utilize the high quality forages that our rotational grazing system provides.
Our breeding season is winding down as I have been able to catch all of our cows in heat and they have been artificially inseminated. A few cows have recycled and been inseminated again but overall conception rates look to be quite good despite the heat that we have had the past two months. Our pastures remain in very good condition.
Our harvest season for our yearling cattle is less than a month away and several of them are big and fat enough to be harvested at any time. We pretty much have all of our young cattle spoken for, but are still adding people to our waiting list.
