Here is our bull calf resting by his mother on a cool early September morning. It has definitely been a relief to get a break from the heat and the smoke. We still have irrigation water for a few more days and the pastures are in great shape considering the adverse conditions. Our daughters named our calf before they headed back to school or off to gainful employment in other locales. He will now be know as Ferdinand, a namesake of the bull in one of their favorite children's videos of their childhood. One thing our Ferdinand has in common with the storybook bull is they both have quiet dispositions.
We had our first full harvest date for our yearling cattle early this week. The yearlings have grown nicely this grazing season and are growing fatter as fall approaches. We are harvesting six head every other Monday into November, so our customers will be receiving a steady supply of beef for the next few months.
